Mary Bromley established THE COURSE in 1994 after moving to London from Africa where she was born. Her interest in Art History was ignited whilst studying and she realised that others like her may wish to explore this fascinating subject. Since then, with the expertise of well-known lecturers and subject specialists, she has offered a vast array of classes. She launched the travel arm in 1997 with a study tour to Japan. During the pandemic, lectures were moved online for the first time. Mary's aspiration is to keep providing original and innovative lectures (rarely repeating any) enabling participants to investigate something new every season. In addition to Art History, The Course also offers Literature, Music, Opera and Garden History programmes. Guided London walks and museum visits are also undertaken.
